The shelter is at the Coll de la Basseta, the logistics center of the whole area of ​​Sant Joan de l'Erm. Very close to the refuge is the new chapel. The remains of the old are about four miles, heading Pallars. The tour is short and has no trouble special orography. You have to go find the track passing to the left of the shelter and proceeds NO. This stretch is known among practitioners of skiing as "the highway": is flat, ideal for learning to keep balance on skis. On the left are emerging new branches, which would lead to higher areas of the station. After a short climb, we will have overcome the Serrat de l'Oratori, where it immediately low to Sant Joan Vell. The remains of the Sanctuary still impresses us.

Sant Joan de l'Erm is a medieval foundation, already documented in the tenth century, which served as a refuge for travelers crossing the woods, a must between Pallars and Urgellet. It was also a fearsome headquarters Carlist general, the Ros d'Eroles, and-this is more debatable- hiding the Holy Grail. The chapel closed for All Saints, and not reopened until the arrival of good weather. Sant Joan was burned in December 1936. From the sanctuary are the bare slopes of the Solà  de Romadriu.
