This is a long and varied route, with ups, downs, changing valley and landscapes, the slopes that separate the basins of the Segre and Noguera Pallaresa. We leave La Basseta to climb to La Culla. From Culla climb towards the Torreta de l'Orri, which skirt its southern side, to leave at the foot of the village of Rubio, who has meritorious status as the highest village in Catalonia (with permission of the artificial Pleta de Baqueira). From here, up in no time, at the Port del Cantó, by the mythical road N-260. In the pass, near where was a spectacular menhir, take a track that starts to the west, and we will Biscarbó. The landscape is now riding soft, open grasslands to the south. The track continues flanking the Gatnau hills and into a new valley, where we found the village of Junyent. Always towards the west we passed the side of La Borda de Mesons, a former property of Cervós de Castellàs, one of the great Pyrenees houses. From here begins a good climb up the shady Junyent, which will lead to the Serra de Taús, dominated by Les Piques, a (relatively) sharp elevation. The views from the mountains open to the four winds, worth the effort of climbing and sweating. From the mountains begins a long descent into Guàrdia d'Ares, the gateway to the great plateau of Taus. After a brief descent we reached the plains, which were farmer paradises since the Neolithic age. We don't arrive to Taus, but take a track on the left that climbs forested slopes. In spring and autumn is a land of rutting deer. Cross the Arcalló gorge, this marks the boundary between the Alt Urgell and Pallars. The Cuberes shelter and well-deserved refreshment are very close.
